  • Derek Mooney — the man who used to spin the wheel on Winning Streak — joins RTÉ's top-10 presenter pay list at number seven with over €200,000 in 2024, and, Dooley notes, was never subject to the 15% pay cut so many other presenters took during a scandal era stretching back to Dee Forbes and Ryan Tubridy — one commenter told Dooley the broadcaster should be renamed “Ryan Tubridy's expenses”.
  • Claire Byrne was paid an extra €47,000 for “garden leave” to complete her contract after finishing up last October — before moving to Newstalk — while Ray D'Arcy pulled in another €53,000; whatever the legal reasoning offered, Dooley says, it all came from the public purse, and defending it is easy “when you're part of the status quo”.
  • For the World Cup playoff qualifier against Czechia — which Ireland lost on penalties, four-two — 41 RTÉ staff travelled to Prague: 12 on-air presenters, 12 editorial production assistants, nine technicians and even members of the commercial partnership team; “absolutely outrageous”, Dooley argues, from a broadcaster funded by the licence fee, heavy advertising and €725 million from the government over the next three years.
  • The RTÉ board and Director General Kevin Bakhurst face the Public Accounts Committee next week — “a nice slap on the wrist”, Dooley predicts, since no accountability ever happens in Ireland — and he demands a thorough Comptroller and Auditor General investigation, noting that media minister Patrick O'Donovan, the man who wants to bring in digital radio, says he knew nothing of this.

Hello everyone

Hello everyone. RTÉ just can't stay out of the news, no pun intended. This is in relation to the latest payment scandal for RTÉ who have been scandal hit over the past number of years. In particular, it goes back to the time of Dee Forbes as Director General and Ryan Tubridy. I remember one commentator on one of my videos said it should be renamed Ryan Tubridy's expenses. Now, wait for the latest scandal to hit RTÉ. This involves a number of their presenters or.

Former presenters. A Derek Mooney who's been working with them for a long number of years has now been added as a presenter to the top 10 list. He came in with a cool 200 plus thousand euro back in 2024 which ranks him at number seven amongst the top 10 list. Remember the man who used to spin the wheel on Winning Streak? Well, looks like he has spun the wheel and made himself a millionaire.

And wasn't subject to the 15% pay cut so many other presenters were during the scandal phase of RTÉ which seems to never really go away. But, at the same time, we've seen more and more public money being transferred into the hands of these out-of-touch, in verted commas, presenters. People like Claire Byrne who was paid an extra 47,000 euro for going on what they call garden leave to complete her contract because she finished up in October last.

Year. And she went on garden leave before she went to work with Newstalk. And at the same time, Ray D'Arcy also pulled in another 53,000 euro. And they said, "Well, there will be legal conditions and reasons to challenge this in terms of 48 and not pay over the money. But, it was all from the public purse, wasn't it? So, it's nothing not to support when you're part of the status quo.

And I have a back horse that it was perfectly justifiable in terms of these payments across to these {inverted commas} presenters. Completely out of touch with ordinary people. And they call it a public service broadcaster. Does that really make you laugh as they pull in the license fee? And on top of it, the serious amounts of advertising every year. And not to mention the 725 million over the next 3 years from the Irish government. And it gets worse because during the.

World Cup playoff qualifier between Ireland and Czechia, 41

World Cup playoff qualifier between Ireland and Czechia, 41 members of RT staff went to Prague. 12 on air presenters, 12 editorial production assistants, and nine RT technicians are part of the technical team. And even members of the commercial partnership team as well were sent across on their junkets to Prague. Now, this is absolutely outrageous when you consider what's taking place in Ireland in terms of more and more people struggling, the cost of living disaster, and these.

{inverted commas} presenters are on the pig's back, or so to speak, in terms of going on their junkets to places like Prague to support the Irish soccer team who lost on that occasion uh to pen- on penalties to Czechia four goals to two. But, here we have it. That's the way Ireland works, isn't it? Absolutely outrageous. But, wait for it, gets better. The board of RT and Kevin Backhurst, the director general, are before the Public Accounts Committee next week. I'm sure.

It'll be a nice a slap on the wrist for them. Like And of course, no accountability ever happens in Ireland. So much for the controller and auditor general. They owe an a thorough investigation into the finances of RTE uh because it's public money. But, who cares when it's ordinary taxpayers' money that this goes into. But, this is what's taken place in Ireland. So much for public service broadcaster. Um just a really an arm of the political.

Establishment. And more and more people are switching off from them. And they know the spin that comes from these established institutions, or so they they claim themselves, where they can swan around and allow their expenses while at the same time ordinary people are suffering. But, this is what takes place in Ireland. And apparently, the media minister, who wants to bring in digital radio, by the way, has said he knew nothing of this. Patrick O'Donovan. Says it all, doesn't it? So, uh thanks so.

A garden-leave payout and a 41-strong Prague junket: RTÉ's latest payment scandal.

Another payment scandal hits RTÉ: Derek Mooney enters the top-10 presenter pay list at over €200,000, Claire Byrne collects an extra €47,000 for “garden leave” before joining Newstalk, and 41 staff fly to Prague for Ireland's World Cup playoff against Czechia. Dooley argues the licence-fee-funded broadcaster is an out-of-touch arm of the political establishment, swanning around on public money while ordinary people face a cost-of-living disaster.
